United Nation and its important organistaion

Ø  Estd- 24th October 1945 after the 2nd World War.
Ø  Founding Members:  51 now is become 193 Countries.
Ø  Headquarters:  At Manhattan, New York City USA and further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi, and Vienna.
Ø  The UN is the largest and most powerful intergovernmental organization in the world.
Ø  The UN has six principal organs:
                                I.            The  General Assembly (the main deliberative assembly)
                              II.            The Security Council (for deciding certain resolutions for peace and security);
                            III.            The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC; for promoting international economic and social co-operation and development)
                            IV.            The Secretariat (for providing studies, information, and facilities needed by the UN)
                              V.            The International Court of Justice (the primary judicial organ)
                            VI.            The UN Trusteeship Council (inactive since 1994).
Ø  The UN organization won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
Ø  The Security Council is made up of fifteen member states. 5-Permanent & 10-Non-permanent.
Ø  The  Five permanent members: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Ø  The 10-non-permanent members:  Bolivia (term ends 2018), Egypt (2017), Ethiopia (2018), Italy (2018), Japan (2017), Kazakhstan (2018), Senegal (2017), Sweden (2018), Ukraine (2017), Uruguay (2017).
Ø  The Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly, after being recommended by the Security Council & the Secretary-General shall not originate from one of the five permanent Security Council member states. The current Secretary-General is António Guterres (Portugal), who replaced Ban Ki-moon in 2017.
Ø  The International Court of Justice (ICJ), located in The Hague, Netherlands & The ICJ is composed of 15 judges, serving  9-year terms and are appointed by the General Assembly.
